M Visvesvaraya is well-known for his outstanding achievements as an engineer, including the Krishna Raja Sagara dam in Mysuru’s northwest suburbs, among others. Visvesvaraya was the chief designer of the city of Hyderabad’s flood protection system, as well as the chief engineer in charge of the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara dam in Mysore.

History of Engineer’s Day
Sir Mokshagundam designed flood protection schemes as well as modern sewage schemes in 1908. He is also well known for his contributions to the development of block systems to reduce water waste in dams. Mokshagundam was also responsible for the road that connects Tirumala and Tirupati. From 1912 to 1919, he was also the 19th Diwan of Mysore.
For his public service, he was named a “Knight Commander” by the British Indian Empire. In 1917, Mokshagundam also established the Government Engineering College in Bengaluru. The university renamed the college the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering.
